- Any child ages 5-14 living in Greater Houston, Texas. The Greater Houston, Texas area includes Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Brazoria, Galveston, Liberty, Waller, Chambers, and Austin counties.
2. What is the deadline to participate?
- Artwork must be postmarked on or before April 1, 2017.
3. What are the contest rules?
- Visit the RULES PAGE for eligibility requirements.
4. Can I drop off my child's art at the contest's organizer/partner/supporter places of business?
- No. Artwork delivered by hand cannot be accepted.
5. When do contestants find out if they won? How will they be contacted?
- Guardians of winners will be contacted by phone and email the week of April 24. Winners will be announced publicly May 4.
6. Where will my child's art be displayed?
- Winning art will be displayed on the homepage of this site as well as at a public venue that is to-be-determined at this time. In 2015, it was displayed at Gallery Furniture and in 2016 at The Health Museum of Houston.
7. How many winners will there be?
- There will be 2 winners per age-level category for a total of 6 winners.
- Level 1: Ages 5-7 Level 2: Ages 8-10 Level 3: Ages 11-14
8. Can I help my child create his/her artwork?
- No, artwork must be of the student's own creation.
9. How is the artwork judged? Who are the judges?
- Artwork will be judged on originality, hopefulness and impact of message. The judging as well as the judges' name are anonymous.
10. What is Mental Health America of Greater Houston?
- Mental Health America of Greater Houston is a non-profit education and advocacy organization helping to increase awareness and decrease stigma related to mental illness through information, education, training and legislative advocacy. Visit www.mhahouston.org
11. What is Nick Finnegan Counseling Center?
- NFCC is a small, non-profit providing counseling for kids, teens, couples and families experiencing emotional stress. NFCC's affordable services are available 6 days a week and can be paid for out-of-pocket or with insurance. Payment plans and a sliding scale are available. Visit FinneganCounseling.org
